VIDEO: Michael Phelps Awash in Cash

He’s already bringing in an estimated $5 million a year in endorsement deals with Speedo, Visa (V), and AT&T (T), but after winning his eighth gold medal this past weekend, surpassing Mark Spitz’s previous record of seven, Michael Phelps’s paycheck is likely to skyrocket.

His marketing potential is already being compared to that of Tiger WoodsPhelps is currently endorsed by nine companies, including international businesses like Matsunichi, a Japanese electronic company and Rosetta Stone. “Over time, it’s certainly possible that this will go from the tens of millions into the hundreds of millions,” Phil de Picciotto, president of Octagon, the sports marketing firm that represents Phelps, has said.
