Heinous Parents of the Stars
Accident? We think not.
Ali Lohan, 14-year-old sister of tabloid darling Lindsay Lohan, unwittingly auditioned before a porn director for a role in his remake of an ‘80’s horror flick called Troll. Fox News [NWS] reports that its producer Peter Davy once directed several racy films that can’t be found in your local Blockbuster [BBI]. Allegedly her mom, Dina Lohan, is “furious” -- but for some reason we suspect this mom-ager happy to see her daughter’s name in the press at any cost!
Dina, who stars in the reality show Living Lohan alongside daughter Ali, is just one example in a long, sordid history of American stage parenting. Take a look at MainStreet’s roundup of other Hollywood nightmares:
1. The Talent: Living Lohan’s Ali Lohan
The Stage Parent: Dina Lohan, with pinch-hitting from Grandma
The Drama: Watch for yourself: Jezebel has painstakingly documented the Lohan family train wreck, including this clip where little Ali says she wants to skip an audition because she doesn’t feel well and Grandma Lohan says it’s “a pile of s***”.”
2. The Talent: American Idol’s David Archuleta
The Stage Parent: Jeff Archuleta
The Drama: American Idol banned the singer’s pushy stage dad from the set after he allegedly urged his son to change song lyrics in a competition – meaning producers had to pay royalties for two songs!
3. The Talent: Jamie Lynn and Britney Spears
The Stage Parent: Lynne Spears
The Drama: It wasn’t long after Britney’s uber-randy video for “Hit Me Baby, One More Time” debuted that people wondered what the heck Lynn was thinking. Fortunately, a three-time granny shelved her book, Through The Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World, after her then-16-year-old’s daughter Jamie Lynn announced a pregnancy.
4. The Talent: Christina Crawford
The Stage Parent: Joan Crawford
The Drama: The actress recently released a 30th anniversary edition of Mommie Dearest, her tell-all memoir that exposed the family’s physically and emotionally abusive home life (“No wire hangers!”) with their superstar mother.
5. The Talent: Drew Barrymore
The Stage Parent: Jaid Barrymore
The Drama: The young star of E.T. bottomed out early in her career, checking into rehab for the first time at the tender age of 13. Critics pointed to the actress’ mother, Jaid, a fixture alongside her daughter on the booze-and-cocaine-fueled party circuit.
6. The Talent: The Jackson 5
The Stage Parent: Joe Jackson
The Drama: Joseph Jackson’s is notorious for physically abusing his children as he managed the Jackson 5’s careers. Nevertheless, in a 2005 48 Hours segment [CBS ], Joe insisted of his strict parenting, “We didn’t make no mistakes.”
