Celebrity Money Challenge

We’ve come a long way since the days of Susan B. Anthony, but despite tabloid covers and pregnancies, Hollywood still remains a man’s town.

Forbes released its annual list of Tinseltown’s highest-paid actors, and it turns out men out-earned their female counterparts 2-to-1. Between June 1, 2007 and June 1, 2008 the big screen’s hottest men netted an estimated $487 million, a dramatic number compared to the $244.5 million the leading ladies took home.

Think you know who’s on top in Hollywood? Take MainStreet’s Celeb Money Quiz to see which of hottest actors are raking in the dough.

True or False:

1. As the third highest earning actor, everything Eddie Murphy touches turns to gold. His recent flick, Meet Dave, topped box office charts and solidified Murphy’s place in summer movie history.
False: Meet Dave turned out to be a big bust. With one of the worst openings in 20th Century Fox (NWS) history, the comedy about, um, aliens only made $5 million during its opening weekend. To date, the failed comedy brought in a disappointing $9.9 million.

2. Between the billion-dollar Pirates of the Caribbean (DIS) franchise and the Oscar-nominated Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (DWA), Johnny Depp is only the second highest paid actor in Hollywood. Over the past year, Depp brought in $72 million - $8 million less than Will Smith.
True: Although Sweeney Todd barely grossed $50 million, it’s still enough to make Depp one of Hollywood’s most sought-after men.

3. Although Vince Vaughn topped the list of celebs who give studios the best value for money, four Ocean’s Eleven (TWX) alum – Matt Damon, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Bernie Mac – also made the list, averaging studios $12.41 for every dollar the stars make.
False: Julia Roberts, not Bernie Mac, rounds out the Ocean’s Eleven actors who are money generating machines for movie studios. Roberts is also one of three women to make the list.
