How the Brett Favre Trade Will Cost Fans

All-time NFL touchdown pass leader Brett Favre's arrival in New York won't just impact the action on the gridiron this fall; there are big bucks at stake.

As one of the elite players and names in the most popular sport in the United States, Favre will bring media exposure and fans' dollars with him to his new home with the New York Jets after the Green Bay Packers traded away their future Hall of Famer on Wednesday.
The move not only had 'Gang Green' fans rejoicing, but green-loving Vegas odds makers scrambling, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, moments after the trade went down, the Las Vegas Hilton pulled all Jets betting lines off the board. That means the brains behind legal betting want to make sure they can hedge their bets, and make the most money possible off a team with a potential fan base of 8 million New Yorkers.

Ticket prices will be going up as well. The Jets, like many NFL teams, has already sold out its regular season games because of the sport's popularity and the relatively low number of games played each season (the NFL has 16 regular season games compared to the NBA's 82 and MLB's 162). But that doesn't mean Favre still can't influence ticket prices. "There will be a huge escalation in secondary ticket market prices," says Don Vaccaro, CEO of TicketNetwork.com, who sees the increase of ticket resale prices for Favre's new team reaching anywhere from 20%-50%. And if Favre leads New York off to hot start? "They will easily rise 100%-150%," says Vaccaro. With choice Jets seats going for $375 at face value, that means they could eventually go for $940, or more! Also, Favre will virtually guarantee that New York's road games all sell out as well, upping the box office receipts and vendor sales wherever the Jets touch down this season.
"It makes that game the place to be for the most national attention," says Vaccaro. "You can't underestimate the celebrity factor."
